The restoration process is similar in technique — both require the lightest possible touch with the finest diamond grits. Green onyx has the additional complexity of color management: every product used must be evaluated for its effect on the emerald palette, since any color shift in the sealer or compound is immediately visible on such a distinctive stone.
Yes — in most cases. The backlit glow effect on green onyx requires the same surface clarity as white onyx: a uniform, mirror-polished surface that allows light to pass through evenly. When etch marks, micro-scratches, or contamination create surface irregularities, they scatter the transmitted light and reduce the glow. We restore the surface polish with appropriate care and the full backlit emerald depth returns.
Not if done correctly. The emerald color of green onyx is in the stone itself, not in any surface coating. Our restoration process removes only the damaged surface layer and repolishes — it does not alter the stone’s color. We specifically select non-tinting, color-safe penetrating sealers and test the effect on a small area before proceeding.
Similar to white onyx — longer than comparable marble projects due to the care required. A countertop project is typically 3-6 hours. Feature wall sections are assessed individually. We provide a specific timeline during your free estimate.
pH-neutral stone cleaners only — green onyx is extremely acid-sensitive and any acidic cleaner will etch it immediately. Never use bathroom cleaners, vinegar, citrus products, or anything not specifically rated for natural stone on green onyx.
