White onyx is formed by the slow precipitation of calcium carbonate in cave environments — a process entirely different from the geological formation of marble or granite, producing a stone of extraordinary translucency. Its banded white, cream, and honey tones with dramatic veining are visually spectacular under any lighting, but when backlit — with LED panels behind a feature wall slab or beneath a bar countertop — the stone appears to glow from within, creating an effect that stops conversation in any room.

White onyx is also, unequivocally, the most delicate natural stone we restore. It is softer than most marbles, more porous, and highly reactive to acid — etching immediately on contact with anything below a neutral pH. More importantly, its translucency means that any surface damage — an etch mark, a scratch, a dull zone — is visible not only from above but through the stone when backlit, making the damage dramatically more apparent than on any opaque stone.
